Piece 1: Nissan Stadium-Tennessee Titans NFL Football. Nissan Stadium is a 70,000-seat sports venue located just across the Cumberland River from downtown Nashville TN that hosts professional and college football, professional soccer, and music events.

We had tickets to see the Titans play, and while the game was good I think we enjoyed watching all the people there just as much.

We stayed at the Quality Inn right across from the stadium’s main parking lot, which gave us a great view (from our hotel room) of the tailgaters setting up their grills, folding chairs, beanbag toss games, and Titans flags. The stadium itself is a majestic site in the early morning hours of game day.

We splurged for club level seats, and ended up in the middle of some season ticket holders that engaged each other like family members. Their banter was fun to listen to.

One fan was dressed up like some kind of Marvel Comics character, and the kids there loved it!

Also, every time the Titans made a first down, the crowd would celebrate with the Spartan yell from the movie “300”…HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH!

It was a great atmosphere, and the home team won the game! HA-OOH!!!

The Loveless Cafe in Nashville, TN

Piece 2: The Loveless Cafe. Located in the southwestern sector of Nashville at 8400 Highway 100 is the Loveless Cafe.

This circa 1951 establishment started as a motel that served fried chicken and homemade biscuits to guests and hungry travelers.

Over the years, the motel rooms have evolved into a collection of little gift shops and the restaurant has become the principal part of the business.

The dining room has wooden floors and wood paneling, and the cozy tables are draped with checkered cloths.

The food is traditional southern country fare with entrees like fried chicken, country ham, and pork chops…and a variety of tasty sides including caramel sweet potatoes, hash brown casserole, turnip greens, marinated cucumbers and onions, creamed corn, and cheese grits.

That said, whatever you get to eat will come with the famous Loveless Cafe biscuits. In fact, the biscuits are probably why most people make the effort to come here…they are special!

Make sure to leave one biscuit on your plate to eat with some jelly or jam. A sweet way to finish off a great meal!

Flatboat Ride at Gaylord Opryland Resort

Piece 3: Gaylord Opryland Resort/Grand Ole Opry. Located east of downtown Nashville (and easily accessible from state highway 155) is the massive Gaylord Opryland Resort.

Established in 1977, the complex has progressively grown to become one of the largest hotels in the world; and the old adjacent theme park area is now an expansive shopping and entertainment mall.

With impressive atrium spaces featuring live plants, waterfalls, and a flatboat ride on a mile-long indoor river, the Gaylord Opryland Resort is truly an adventure.

We were there during the holiday season and the decorations were spectacular; particularly the large display of Christmas trees themed after country music stars.

The Grand Ole Opry is close to the hotel and shuttle buses provide easy access to the music venue, which features church pew seating (padded for comfort) and great acoustics. No bad seats in the place, and the roster of performers is typically a mix of the old and new generations of country music.

The hotel is a feast for the eyes, and the Opry is a feast for the ears!
